WHO ARE WE?

Spoken Word curators, producers, SPEAKERS AND artists, opening up new spaces for spoken word and its links to music, performance and visual expression.

Since 2004, we have produced events featuring talents such as Mike Ladd, Ursula Rucker, Sophie Woolley, Brian Patten, Soweto Kinch and Patience Agbabi. We have hosted UK Tours and events for Amiri Baraka, Jamaican dub poet and reggae artist Mutabaruka, poet and rock star Jessica Care Moore and we arrange spoken word lecture and book tours for Guardian journalist Gary Younge. We host the acclaimed 'Liming’ events which fuse spoken word with a carnival sensibility and our Patron is the acclaimed poet John Agard.

Whereas many may equate spoken word with performance and in particular, poetry, we expand its limiting definition as performance poetry to a varied and evolving form that also encompasses the realms of speech, satire and oratory. Words spoken can have restorative effects on the speaker as well as the listener.  We explore wellbeing and development through spoken word via a number of projects. Many of the Tilt team are spoken word practitioners who use words and public speaking as part of their everyday work and creativity.

Tilt is the sister company to Renaissance One. Renaissance one works with the full range of literature - offering events, touring, project management, agency representation, mentoring and bespoke services to writers, and training and professional development to producers, practitioners and small creative businesses.

What They Say

"Tilt can always be trusted upon to set the space for spoken word, top notch poets, DJ's and the people to mix it up. The people that attend are often as interesting to watch as the acts up on stage. Their event London Liming never ceases to amaze, to inspire and to pull out of the hat the ‘something other’
